Phillip Hernandez

Here is the link to another blog I just started.

http://itchfortoons.blogspot.com/

Here is the text from the first post in case you can't read it.

A weekend—for me—of being social usually entails the following (at J-Maddy) starting on Friday:

1. Ordering food/debating on whether to leave the apartment to use a punch: "Should I really go back...all the way to campus...just to eat??" or “Who doesn’t charge for delivery...”

2. Finding people to "pre-game" with...or: "Hey roommates, what are we drinking?"

3. Stumbling around Harrisonburg and whilst attempting to find free alcohol: "Dude...they have 3 kegs...they won't run out of beer..."

4. Finding a way home after the party you are at runs out of beer: "Yeah...they ran out beer before we got there...are we walking from South****? *Calls Sober Driver*

5. Somehow being home.

6. Smoke...something...like a cigarette.

7. Order food my body tricked me into thinking I need.

8. Pass out, do it again the next day...

This list may be familiar to the “college type”, and I say college type because not everyone is a student...anyway. I hate routine. (That’s probably why I don’t like going to class.) I go through the motions and proceed to fill my body with toxins every weekend. Great. Fortunately, I have pretty good problem solving skills.

There is literally nothing fun about a hangover...except maybe thinking about how you got it. Anyway...I wake up pretty early (regardless the condition of my head or my body). Lately, I’ve been trying new hangover cures every morning, things that I generally enjoy. I think the best way to overcome the “players fever” or “morning boat ride” or “making out with my toilet”...wait what???
....I think the best way to overcome a hangover is to just get your mind off of it. My recent paradise from pain has been old school cartoons. Thank G** for www.hulu.com
There is a certain amount of fun and enjoyment I get from the nostalgia of old cartoons. We get drunk to get “retarded”—I use that word with much disdain—but in some way, I think we just want to bring the kid out in us. I like to continue that feeling every “morning after”.

I’ve recently been keeping up with my Voltron.

  1. Phil:
Interesting post. I feel like it definitely outlines the weekend for a lot of JMU students. I like the tone you use, it definitely adds to the humor of the piece.
I'm not really sure what the subject of your blog is, but it looks like there will be a lot of interesting posts to come.

  2. Phil,

I really like this blog and the feel of it, but it has a little more of a dark party feel than, "ZOMG! my head hurts, what do i DO?!?!" feel. I like your personal connection with your audience, and I look forward to reading more about what I can do.
I like the videos, but would like to see less rock and loud playing music and more of Voltron and Speed Racer, the shows that you normally watch to cure your hangover. Also the white text on the somewhat white background is a little difficult to read, so i would work on that.
